CRICKET
Junior Cricket at RCC
A place where every child belongs
At Rowville Cricket Club, we believe cricket is about much more than runs and wickets. It's about making friends, building confidence, developing skills and creating lifelong memories.
We're proud to provide a welcoming, inclusive and family-friendly environment for boys and girls aged 4 to 16, catering for children of all abilities and experience levels. Whether your child is picking up a bat for the very first time or looking to challenge themselves in competitive cricket, we have a program that's right for them.
One of the things we're most proud of is our outstanding player retention. Families stay with Rowville because children enjoy coming to cricket, develop their skills each season and build strong friendships with their teammates.
We field teams across every junior age group within the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association (FTGDCA) and have recently expanded into additional competitions to provide even greater opportunities for our players. This allows families to choose from different days of play or, for those wanting even more cricket, the opportunity to play multiple games each weekend.
We know that playing with friends is one of the biggest reasons children love community sport, and wherever possible we work hard to help teammates stay together while also ensuring every player has the opportunity to develop.
We also believe cricket should be affordable. We keep our registration fees and uniform costs to a minimum and provide playing equipment wherever required, ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate.
Our junior home matches are played across three local venues:
- Liberty Reserve
- Rowville Recreation Reserve (Seebeck Reserve)
- Karoo Reserve
No matter where your child begins their cricket journey, they'll be welcomed into a club that values participation, development, friendships and fun.
Which program is right for my child?
Every child begins their cricket journey at a different stage, and every player develops at their own pace. While the age ranges below are a helpful guide, our experienced coaches are always happy to help you determine which program will provide the best experience for your child.
🏏 Ages 4–8

Looking for something different?
All Abilities Cricket Blast runs alongside our regular Cricket Blast program and provides children with additional needs the opportunity to experience all the fun of cricket in a smaller, more personalised environment with flexible activities tailored to each participant.
Whether your child is taking their very first swing of a bat or looking to take their cricket to the next level, there's a place for them at Rowville Cricket Club.
Woolworths Cricket Blast
The perfect introduction to cricket.
Designed for children generally aged 4–8, Woolworths Cricket Blast is where many of our young cricketers begin their journey.
Our 12-week program is held on Sunday mornings at Liberty Reserve, with each one-hour session introducing participants to the fundamental skills of cricket through fun games and engaging activities.
Children learn:
- Batting
- Bowling
- Fielding
- Throwing
- Catching
Sessions are run in a safe, supportive environment using soft plastic equipment, with everything provided by the club.
As part of their registration, every participant also receives:
- Their own Cricket Blast equipment pack to use at home
- A personalised Cricket Blast playing shirt
It's a fantastic way for children to build confidence, make friends and discover a love of cricket.
All Abilities Cricket Blast
Cricket for everyone.
Our All Abilities Cricket Blast program has been specifically designed for children with additional needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities or who are neurodiverse.
Running alongside our regular Cricket Blast program on Sunday mornings at Liberty Reserve, this six-week program provides a smaller, more personalised environment where every participant can enjoy cricket at a pace that suits them.
Our flexible approach allows each child to participate in ways that match their individual abilities and comfort levels, ensuring every session is enjoyable, inclusive and successful.
One of the highlights of this program is the friendships that develop between participants and families. We consistently receive wonderful feedback from parents who appreciate having a supportive environment where their children can have fun, learn new skills and connect with others.
Everyone deserves the chance to experience the joy of cricket, and we're proud to provide that opportunity.
Super 7
The first step into team cricket.
Super 7 introduces children to playing "real" cricket while keeping the game fun, exciting and development-focused.
Players compete in teams of seven in a modified T20 format against other local clubs. Every player gets equal opportunities throughout the game.
Each week, every player:
- Bats
- Bowls
- Takes a turn wicketkeeping
One of the best features of Super 7 is that every child faces the same number of deliveries when batting, regardless of whether they're dismissed, ensuring everyone enjoys equal involvement.
Players wear full protective equipment—including pads, helmet and gloves—and bat with a wooden cricket bat. The club provides all equipment, although families are welcome to purchase their own gear if they wish.
Games use a softer cricket ball and a shortened pitch, making the transition to cricket both safe and enjoyable. With only seven fielders on the ground, there are plenty of opportunities for players to score runs and experience success.
Super 7 is generally suited to children aged 7–8, although placement is based more on a player's development than their age.
Games are played on Wednesday evenings (5:15pm–7:30pm), with teams also training once each week.
Fast 9
The next step into hard ball cricket.
Fast 9 builds on the skills developed in Super 7 and introduces players to hard ball cricket in a supportive environment.
The format remains focused on development while beginning to resemble traditional junior cricket.
Players compete in teams of nine, with every child batting and bowling during each match. Unlike Super 7, once a batter is dismissed, their innings comes to an end, helping players transition towards the traditional rules of cricket.
The pitch is slightly longer than in Super 7, allowing players to continue developing both their batting and bowling skills.
Fast 9 is generally suited to children aged 9–10, although we recognise every child develops differently and are always happy to help families determine which program is the best fit.
Games are currently played on
Wednesday evenings (5:15pm–7:30pm).
Competitive Junior Cricket
For players ready to take the next step.
Once players have progressed through our introductory programs, they move into our competitive junior teams.
We proudly field teams in every FTGDCA junior age group:
Under 12
- Friday evenings (5:15pm–7:45pm)
Under 14
- Saturday mornings (8:20am–11:30am)
Under 16
- Friday evenings (5:00pm–8:00pm)
To provide even more opportunities for our families, we are also expanding into additional competitions, with plans to field:
- Under 14 (BHRDCA) – Friday evenings
- Under 16 (RDCA) – Saturday mornings
- Under 13 (ISEC) – Sunday mornings
Families can register for any of these teams and, if they wish, players can nominate to play in multiple competitions throughout the season.
Where multiple teams exist within an age group, players are graded to ensure appropriate levels of competition while also considering friendship groups wherever possible.
Our aim is simple: provide every player with the opportunity to enjoy their cricket, continue developing and play in an environment where they can thrive.
Junior Representative Cricket
We proudly support representative cricket opportunities through the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association.
Each season, Rowville Cricket Club has players, coaches and team managers selected to represent the association, and we have been privileged to host representative matches at Rowville Recreation Reserve.
Representative cricket provides talented and aspiring players with the opportunity to challenge themselves against the best players from neighbouring associations while continuing to develop their skills and love of the game.
We actively encourage eligible players to participate and are proud of the strong contribution Rowville families continue to make to these programs.
Senior and Veterans Cricket
We field senior teams across a range of divisions in the FTGDCA, with our First XI competing in the Bob Decoite Shield.
We have a proud history over the last 70+ years and welcome players of all backgrounds and abilities to play senior cricket with our club.
Additionally, we field two veterans teams who play on a Sunday afternoon.
Under the leadership of newly appointed club coach Lee Fallon, we are excited about the opportunities that will present this season. We have a young and exciting list that is primed for success in the coming seasons.
